Scientists on the state of the Manuwatu River

The “One Plan” hearings entered their final phase this week with key scientists presenting their findings to inform decision making on the regions land and water management plan. Also under scrutiny was the health of the Manuwatu River. Horizons Regional Council held a briefing for media to engage with experts regarding the real state of the Manawatu River, which has been incorrectly labeled the most polluted in the Western world.

The panel comprises:

o Dr Jon Roygard – head of Science at Horizons Regional Council
o Dr Barry Briggs – a NIWA scientist responsible for environmental management
o Dr Roger Young – a freshwater ecologist from the Cawthron Institute
