Media queries and Expert reaction

E ngā mana, e ngā reo, e ngā rau rangatira mā, nau mai.

He kairīpoata Māori koe? Kei te kimi koe i ngā reo mātanga hei whakapakari i āu pūrongo?

Anei mātou o te Science Media Centre hei tautoko i a koutou kia pakari ake, kia hōhonu ake ā koutou pūrongo pūtaiao.

Whakapā mai – we can help connect you with researchers and experts who have experience in English and Te Reo Māori interviews for your stories – via email or our 24/7 media hotline: 027 3333 000.

Here is a selection of recent expert reaction comments we’ve gathered on a range of topics, including mātauranga Māori research. To add yourself to our media release lists, you can register here.

We host regular media training workshops for Māori researchers and can connect you with researchers who have come through this programme. They have experience giving media interviews – in te reo Māori or English – across many different topics, including environmental, social, health, technology and kaupapa Māori research.

We also have a Desk guide to explain how all of our resources can help you report science related issues.

Scimex

In collaboration with the Australian Science Media Centre, we run Scimex.org – a hub for science and research-related news.

With Scimex, you can access embargoed research, receive email updates, and filter content by kaupapa, region, or interest—so you get what’s most relevant to your audience.

There is an ‘indigenous’ tag that features research led by, for and with indigenous peoples, including Māori researchers.

Previous work

From 2021 to 2022, we produced a monthly newsletter for Māori media, curating recent science-related stories and profiles of Māori researchers, compiled by Rosemary Rangitauira. Here’s the final issue published.

We also hosted a section on Sciblogs – Mātau Taiao – that featured mātauranga Māori and other Māori research and researchers. Sciblogs has now been archived but all the posts can still be read.
