ETS submissions a mixed bag of science and lobbying

The first wave of submissions to the ETS Review Committee have been published on the New Zealand Parliament website. The submission process has allowed scientists to offer input into the proposed future structure of the ETS for the first time since the scheme was originally drafted.

Hot Topic takes issue with many of the submissions from the business community, but has more time for the scientific content of submissions from universit and CRI researchers.

Submissions were lodged by scientific research organisations and sector groups including:

New Zealand Climate Change Centre
Bioenergy Association of New Zealand
GNS Science
New Zealand Climate Change Research Institute

The Prime Minister John Key has indicated that New Zealand will work closely with Australia in the run-up to December’s climate talks in Coopenhagen, to explore scenarios for harmonising New Zealand and Australian carbon emissions reduction legislation. The draft Australian legislation was published two weeks ago here.
