Electric cars in capital spark interest

A showcase of electric vehicles in Wellington has provided a glimpse into the future of personal transport and captured the attention of the national media.

The display of electric powered transport at Te Papa on Wednesday was part of Electric Vehicle Day, an initiative of Mayor Celia Wade-Brown supported by local electric vehicle businesses and owners.

The event coincided with a workshop on electric vehicles run by the APEC Expert Group on New and Renewable Energy Technologies (EGNRET). The workshop, also at Te Papa on Wednesday, was organised by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).

The Science Media Centre held a media briefing ahead of the workshop, featuring experts such as Prof C.C. Chan – ‘grand father of the electric car’.
