Last week at Science Express @ Te Papa, physicist Marcus Wilson spoke about the Large Hadron Collider, and the myths (and realities) surrounding it.
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has become well-known not only as one of humanity’s most complex (and expensive) feats of engineering and a means of further plumbing the mysteries of the universe, but also as the originator of some rather strange rumours.
In his talk, Marcus spoke to the science of the Large Hadron Collider and the purpose behind its being built. He also dispelled some of the the myths surrounding the LHC, including whether it would create earth-destroying black holes, and the possibility that the Higgs bosons it might, hopefully, create are in fact destroying it from the future.
